August 13, 1996.
That was the day I finally repented from believing I was the god of my own life and pledged to submit myself under the one true God.
A few days later, after some journaling and reading the book, “Good Morning, Holy Spirit,” I was sitting on the toilet with my Bible (no phones back then, lol) when I asked Holy Spirit to say something so I could know what it was like to hear His voice.
“Ephesians 6:13”
I was nervous as I flipped through my Bible. Is there even such a chapter? Or does Ephesians end at Chapter 5?
I memorized the names of the books of the Bible when I was 13, but I wasn’t familiar with how many chapters are in each book l (still not, to be honest).
Not only did He answer my prayer to hear His voice, He added an extra prophetic bonus! At the time I didn’t know He was giving specific instruction for my life and future. But today I’m looking back over my lifetime and seeing fulfillment, and even more instruction for how I am to live.
No big moment. No good story for the history books. Just a billion little “taking my thoughts captive” bubbles that appear and vanish before anyone can truly get a good look at them. An offense, a bad attitude, a lustful thought, an utterance of hatred- immediately turning away and choosing purity before God.
I didn’t do it to gain fulfillment. I did it because of love- love that sprung up in me because Love was within me. Not because I’m anyone special or more capable. Everyone has access to this! Ohhhhhh, the disgust I attribute to myself with what a sinner I am!!
But HIM! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! HE is the reason, and not myself, that the fulfillment of His promises is at my front porch.

Ephesians 6:11-14a
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand…
14 Stand.”
